In getting through with the end of first semester of my first year in college, I want to write about how different perspectives I owned before I really get into the college life.
Getting into the college I have applied and being a college student was very big part of mine. I always had a dream of having fun with new friends and also leading academically successful college life. However, it was somewhat different from what I have thought of and/or I might have had wrong ideas on college life.

It was fresh and exciting for me to be a college student when I first entered to UIUC. Since it was my first time to have a roommate assigned, everything was very new and I hoped everything would go well. Also registering for classes excited me because I hoped for the new (high) grades to be scripted in my new transcript.

While I had fun in getting along with my new friends, there were still lots of works to be done. Thinking that the first year would be easier than I thought of, I always completed things with ease mind and faster than any other. However, now I find that I was wrong. There were no things that I could gain without my hard work.
Having my finals left behind in next week, I am looking forward to work as best as I can and have my winter break with fun.

SUBJECT- Science

TOPIC- Animal Research

RESEARCH QUESTION- Should animal testing be continued?

INFORMATIVE T.S.- There are pros and cons of animal research, and each side has their own point of view(whether it's advantage or disadvantage) about the issue.

PERSUASIVE T.S.- Putting the value in the rights of animals more than the advance in science, people must be aware of the animal testing that is around us and take offensive action toward the product from it. Also, government should enforce the law in limiting the animal research.

my opinion toward teenagers having jobs.

Before having their actual job, many high school students find their part time job to afford themselves little bit more without help of their parents. The reasons of having jobs may vary, however, I think the idea of having the job and earning by themselves is a good idea and actually gives many benefits to themselves, too. Although there are some disadvantages of it, for example, teenagers would not have enough time to spend in their academic studies or would only focus on earning the money, I think there are more valuable advantages to it.

First, having jobs help grow student to be independent. As I am a non-experienced person, who never worked, when I compare myself to my friends who had several jobs in their teens, I feel more immature. They know what they are doing and they have more responsibility of what they are doing and also spend their money efficiently. On the other hand, I tend to be more dependent to my parents and have no sense of balancing my money and therefore tend to extravagant toward my time and money.

Second, the process of having the job and the result helps teenagers to be more appreciated with the time they spent in their work. Although it would be just the part time job, still, students who are trying to find the job has to be evaluated while submitting their resumes and this process helps the working teenagers to be appreciated with the results that they are actually employed to the company they hoped to work at. Also, they actually meet new and experienced people and they will naturally know how earning money requires effort of their own, therefore appreciate their job.

Third, having jobs is the step toward to be prepared for the future. As shown above, the process of getting job grows individual's independency and helps them to be prepared for their job in timely manner. Therefore, it would actually help them to have more idea about having the job.

Although the jobs would have negative affects on students to not to concentrate hard on their studies, this would actually help teenagers the idea of how to manage their time. I think this issue matters to how they think and how they respond to it. Therefore, I think having job in their teen years would actually boost their ability to be independent, grow appreciation, and the preparation for the future.

Thesis statement:
A good instructor and a bad instructor has several differences under the fact that they both teach many students under them. They differ in their qualities of their preparation, activeness, and the way they think.

Topic sentence:
1. A good instructor should develop clear instructions for assignment and prepare some kind of outline the day before the class. A bad instructor, however, would have no preparation for the class and will confuse students in their assigned material.
Ex. One of my college classes whose TA is seems to be never prepared.

2. A good model would be the instructor who could continuously contract with student, what their problem is and what should they do as an instructor, but not on private matters. On the other hand, a bad instructor would only think themselves and teach only what they have prepared.
Ex. A bad instructor would not hear the comments of the student whereas a good instructor always hears the word.

3. A good instructor should leave behind the non-academic characteristics when grading the students. A bad instructor, for example, would evaluate student by their cultural background or some stereotype they own, although they might be doing without realizing it.
Ex. A bad instructor would grade their students with unreasonable things.

Do you agree or disagree? "Technology helps people to live better than ever."

I agree with the idea that technology has helped people to live better lives. With the advance of the technology and with the appearance of new technology devices, people in this world are living easy ad better lives compared to the lives decades ago. The technology first helped people to know the global matters faster and easier. Also, it helped people to lead easy and safe lives.

First of all, with the appearance of the Internet, people in today live globally. We know everything that happens in the world and someone could able to see our comments directly on the web. We can chat with friends who lives far away from us and we could even face-chat. All the incidents are inter-connected that we don't really seem to feel far away with each another.

Secondly, with the advance of cleaning machines and dryers, parents especially our moms could reduce their time spending in cleaning the house. Moreover with the appearance of the robot vacuum which automatically wanders and cleans the room when we set the timer, the labor spent in cleaning the room are reduced and gives more free time to people to enjoy other activities they liked to do.

Lastly, the cell phone we use today helped a lot in securing our lives from the stranger. There is even a security button which it sends the text messages or alarms to the person who we chose, when we push certain button several times when we think we are in danger. These clever idea helped children to acknowledge their safety.

As the new ideas and technology develops, people tend to live better lives than ever before. Although we might get lazy with these convenient technology devices, I think these tools still requires us to admit that we live in more comfortable lives than before and appreciate how we live.

What do you think someone your age can do to help environement clean?

Environmental issues are one of the most considerable topics around the world. Thinking environmentally and going "green" is today's ongoing activities that consider the future of the Earth. It is inevitable fact that the Earth would not last long if humans do not engage in promoting the health of our planet. However, there are some limitations in helping the environment clean especially during one's student life. Nevertheless, I think we could definitely help reduce the pollution and save the Earth in various ways such as by recycling, joining clubs, and using transportations.

One of the effective way in keeping our resources is recycling what we have used. This is not a time-consuming act nor takes our expenses out of our pockets. Therefore, it is the easiest way of keeping our environment clean. Recycling by paper, plastics, or cans may allow factories to recover them into new items without wasting the Earth's resources anymore. Once we are used to the method of recycling the materials, it also saves the Earth's valuable resources.

Secondly, we can join clubs or programs that is relevant to the environment. There are thousands of clubs in schools and is open to all students who are interested in it. Clubs can arrange its members to analyze the issues concerning the Earth and organize volunteering services for individuals to meet their goals. Once engaged in at least one club, we will have an idea of how our actions can cause the actual result to our environment and eventually, to us. It is our decision on whether to join them or not. I think this is also a good chance to further approach in knowing better about our planet. Furthermore, joining a club could be an open chance to only students since it would be hard to engage in such activities when we grow up and have our own jobs.

Thirdly, walking or using transportation system rather than driving our own car is also one way that student can easily save energy and reduce pollution. It is difficult to protest driving one's car and have more convenient way to get to one's destination by driving our own car, but using transportation system helps a lot in saving the pollution of the Earth. In addition, UIUC serves the transportation system that goes around the campus to the marketplace and anywhere that the students are expected to go during the weekends. In other words, transportation is available to all students without any fees.

Regards to ways in promoting the environment clean, there are many other ways that we can engage in it. However, these three actions mentioned above could help to better serve our planet clean and also wil give us the notion of keeping the environment clean as we get used to it.
